Design and Access Statements

Design and Access Statements provide a record of decisions taken throughout a project. They explain and justify the method and approach taken to providing an
inclusive design with regards to access in statutory regulations and legislation.

Design and Access Statements are a requirement for planning purposes for some projects, and they should ensure inclusive design is considered from the outset in the scheme.  They can with benefit be developed into Access Statements at a more detailed level (for Building Control purposes for example); thereby ensuring inclusive design is considered throughout the project.  This may prove to be important
where a disability-related complaint is raised under the Equality Act 2010.
