Access Audits

The Equality Act 2010

There are new requirements to make goods, facilities, services and premises
more accessible to disabled people from 2010 / 2011.  These operate on the basis of ‘reasonable adjustments’, (as with the former DDA), but with a new threshold for when this applies.  Previously applicable when accessing a goods or service is ‘impossible or unreasonably difficult’, the duties are now enforceable when there is any disadvantage encountered by a disabled person that is not minor or trivial.

Disability Services – Access Auditors & Consultancy Services

An initial consultation is arranged to discuss the disability related
provisions of the Equality Act 2010, and how it may affect you.  An Access Auditor or Consultant will undertake a thorough assessment of the premises to assess any remedial work that needs to be completed to meet the current regulations, and a full written report is produced, highlighting any problems and giving recommendations of how to overcome them. Consultants have more knowledge about the construction
process than auditors, and can provide more than general advice on solutions,
although both have problem-identifying skills.

An estimate of all works, materials and disability products can be produced. We
can also supply or recommend tradesmen to undertake any alterations and oversee
any work, if required.

Various courses in Disability Awareness can also be arranged for the relevant
number of staff employed.
